Any given named element (eg, a Role of "Process Owner", "Sponsor", etc) can only be featured on a given diagram once.

In a multi-step process (eg, Value Stream Mapping), it is the real-world case that the same role will apply to more than one of the steps. It is messy to try to show the role icon linked to multiple steps, especially if a number of different roles apply to various steps (ie, where step = activity). The same could apply to an artefact (document) which may be an input or output to several consecutive steps. I see no valid reason for treating roles and docs in the same way as elements such as activities and decisions, (where the restriction does in fact make sense), and suggest that this restriction could be relaxed, or made optional on a per-project basis as a project property. (Unless, that is, I'm missing something?)
